The Goth in me

2009 seemed to be a rather 'attempting' year for me so far. First attempts in painting - the way i see them in my mind/heart - more and more like how i illustrate/sketch. Though i have not achieved perfect congruence (can i use it this way, i wonder?) but it's getting there, despite internal turbulence along the way, i have experienced growth. And perhaps now you know why i'm such an unhappy person :) incongruency - art-wise....

Incongruency - my life too...how contradicting it is, to say all these, when i will be going back to office life this April.

Your comment really speaks to me. I am still experimenting and finding my way with art. Clients get frustrated with me sometimes because my style changes but I'm simply not interested in pigeon-holing my work. I love to experiment and try new things which helps me grow as an artist.

In fact I sorted through my hard drive just today to try and empty things out a bit - anyway, I found some of my old work and wow, did I find a sense of accomplishment. Not all of my experiments have been successful but I feel like I am a better artist for making the effort!

Hey - thanks so much for the great links. The art of James Jean is more amazing than I can ever aspire to be - but I love seeing it! Amazing work. I really enjoyed the Illustration Art link - the article "Loose Delights" was really enlightening.

This new style I am working in makes me really happy. I am able to get the texture that I liked from the palette knife with the collage paper layers under the paint. But the brush allows me to also include a few more details.

Here's to finding our voices!

She reminds me of a sad, exotic Snow White- red, black, white- such impact. Beautifully done.

I hope your new job has a better work/life balance. Best wishes.
