The Browless Geisha....an experiment....

The browless geisha
............
(my 7th acrylic painting.....an experiment.....as I was wondering how to paint an already painted face, how to highlight whites? what is the best shade/shadow colour for a white-painted face, such as a geisha's? How to show that the lips are partly hidden by the white make up and that it's only painted red in the centre?.........)

Greetings from someone else in Malaysia; I wandered in from Alexiev's blog and had a -lovely- time browsing through your work. Such beautiful colours! So happy-making. You're a very talented artist!

I think the colors you shades with are lovely and work nicely. They provide warmth. Grays would also work, but would cool off the image, so I think you made the right choice.

She is lovely, from what I can see, you have added a slight pinkness to the white to insinuate the contours of her face, I think you have done a good job of the lips too.

Oh! thank you and a big warm smile to everyone :) I was actually a bit frightened when I started this piece...cos I really don't know how will this experiment turn out to be...but still, I'll continue to share with you all, be it a good or a bad piece...

Nancy, gray was actually my first choice for the shadings but as I don't have black (the hair is a mixture of dark colours), I can't make gray....but I'm really glad that you all like this shade...hmmm...I've learnt a bit more from this piece!

Thank you once again everyone :) I shall work harder...

Hi cousin! Just want to shout out to you that your acrylic painting is really fantastic! It sounds difficult to me (being too used to digital) having to 'mix' dark colours to get black, and how you'll never NOT hav gray (or any other colours) in digitals. But I can see you're really enjoying experimenting and it's a great thing! I think you painted the lips very well, can see that the outer part of the lips are covered by the white. Well done well done!

plus ultra, wowiee?? :D Well, you don't know how happy I am to know that this might be of help to your patients! But...I don't know...I'm a bit shy about my paintings at this stage, and I know I've a lot to learn still...and when I give, I would like to give my best...and not a practicing piece...but once I'm ready, I'll remember to paint one just for you :)
